11 Days In the "Footsteps of Jesus" - Journey to the Holy Land - February 10-20, 2020

(Day 1) MONDAY - Departure from USA.

Depart Detroit on an overnight flight to the Holy Land. Meals served on board.

(Day 2) TUESDAY - Arrival into Tel Aviv - Tiberias

Arriving in Tel Aviv we will meet our guide and driver and proceed to Tiberias for dinner and overnight. If time permits, before arriving in Tiberias, we will go to Jaffa to the Church of St Peter, the house of Simon the Tanner, and the Church and tomb of St. George in Lod (Lydda).

(Day 3) WEDNESDAY - Caesarea - Nazareth - Cana

We will start our day with a visit to the archaeological remains of the ancient port of Caesarea; then to Nazareth to visit Mary’s Well at the Church of the Annunciation. After visiting the site of Jesus’ first miracle at the Church in Cana of Galilee we will return for dinner and overnight in Tiberias.

(Day 4) THURSDAY - Sea of Galilee - Mt. Beatitudes

On this day, we begin with a visit to the Mount of Beatitudes, where Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount. Then on to Tabgha, Greek for seven springs, and the Church commemorating the multiplication of fishes and loaves. We will continue to Capernaum, the headquarters of Jesus ministry in Galilee, St. Peter’s house and the Church of the Holy Apostles. At lunch we will be offered a meal of St. Peter’s Fish. We will move on to Chorazin which was cursed by Jesus because the people did not follow his teaching. After a boat ride across the Sea of Galilee we will return for dinner and overnight in Tiberias.   

(Day 5) FRIDAY - Mt. Tabor - Nablus - Samaria - Jacob’s Well

We will check out of our hotel and begin with a visit to Mt. Tabor and the Church of the Transfiguration. Then we will leave the Galilee area and head to the Old City of Nablus in Samaria at Mount Gerizim where we will visit Jacob’s Well and then proceed to Bethlehem for dinner and overnight.

(Day 6) SATURDAY - Jerusalem - Mt. Olives - Mt. Zion - Bethany - Bethlehem

On this day we begin with a visit to the Mount of Olives and a panoramic overlook of Jerusalem; then we will visit the Church of Pater Noster, and the Chapel of Ascension. Next will walk down the Palm Sunday road stopping at the beautiful Russian Orthodox Church of St. Mary Magdalene. We continue on to visit the Tomb of the Virgin Mary and then the Church of all Nations in the Garden of Gethsemane. We will finish the day with a visit to St. Peter Church in Galicantu (“cock’s crow) and the House of Mary and Lazarus in Bethany. Dinner and overnight will be in Bethlehem.

(Day 7) SUNDAY - Jericho - Dead Sea - Jordan River

We will start our day with worship and a visit to the Monastery of St. George, built in a rock Ravine in the Judean desert. We will then visit the Mount of Temptation taking the Jericho Cable Car up to the Orthodox Monastery. Next will be the  Jordan River where the group may renew their baptismal vows. We finish up the day with a visit to the Dead Sea and dinner and overnight in Bethlehem.

(Day 8) MONDAY - Ein Karem - Bethlehem

We begin with a visit to Ein Karem, the birthplace of St. John the Baptist, and the Russian and the Greek Orthodox Churches there; then the ancient Monasteries of St. Theodosius and Mar Saba. We will continue to the Shepherd’s Field and Grotto where the Shepherds saw the star of the Nativity. We finish the day with a visit to the Church of the Nativity and some time for shopping before dinner and overnight in Bethlehem.

(Day 9) TUESDAY - Jerusalem - Old City - Via Dolorosa

Today we begin with a visit to the Wailing Wall and Temple Mount. Then, after visiting St. Anne’s Church and the Pool of Bethesda, we will walk the Via Dolorosa and visit the Ecce Homo where Jesus was condemned to death. From there we will enter into the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the site of Christ’s Crucifixion and Resurrection. We close the day with a visit to St. Jacobs Church and St. James Cathedral in the Armenian quarter. Dinner and overnight in Bethlehem.

(Day 10) WEDNESDAY - Jerusalem - Greek Orthodox Church - Farewell dinner

We will visit the Greek Orthodox Church, and the Orthodox Monasteries, the Monastery of the Holy Cross and the Church of St. Simon in Katamon.  We will have free time in Jerusalem for shopping and independent visits. A farewell dinner will be held in a local restaurant in Bethlehem.

(Day 11) THURSDAY - DEPARTURE

Free time and return flights home, transfers to Tel Aviv airport, we will arrive back in the USA the same day.
