Day 1: Friday, March 13

Departure for Israel

We depart from Charlotte/Douglas International Airport for our overnight flight to the Holy Land.  Meals will be served on board.


Day 2: Saturday, March 14

Arrival Tel Aviv - Transfer to Tiberias

We meet our guide at the Tel Aviv airport, and drive to our Hotel in Tiberias for dinner and overnight.

 
Day 3: Sunday, March 15

Caesarea Maritma - Mt. Carmel - Meggido

We start the day with a visit to Caesarea Maritima, a city filled with Roman, Byzantine, and Crusader ruins. Built by King Herod the Great in 22 B.C., it was here that Pontius Pilate lived and where the Gospel was first brought to the Gentiles. 

We continue to Mount Carmel and Meggido and explore the Tel (Hebrew for ‘mound’) that dates back to 4000 BC. We’ll explore ruins from the times of King Solomon and King Ahab. Overlooking the Armageddon Valley, we will also learn the reasons why it is believed this will be the location of the final battle between good and evil according to the book of Revelation. Dinner and overnight in Tiberias.


Day 4: Monday, March 16

Sea of Galilee - Capernaum - Mount of Beatitudes - Magdala - Banias

We start the day with a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee, then continue to the Jesus Boat Museum to visit a 2000-year-old boat from the time of Christ. We continue then to Capernaum, where we’ll visit the remains of an old house, perhaps much like the one where followers of Jesus lowered a paralyzed friend through the roof. We’ll continue on to visit the Mount of the Beatitudes on the Sea of Galilee, and the the village Magdala. Finally, we’ll end the day by visiting Banias, the site of Peter’s Confession. Dinner and overnight in Tiberias.

Day 5: Tuesday, March 17 

Cana - Nazareth Village - Jordan River - Jericho - Jerusalem 

We’ll check out of our hotel in Galilee and head south towards Jerusalem, stopping at Cana of Galilee, Nazareth and Nazareth village. Then driving through the Jordan Valley, we will visit the traditional site of Jesus’ baptism on the Jordan River, where we can renew our own baptismal commitments. Leaving there, we’ll visit Jericho, and drive to Mount Scopus for a panoramic view of Jerusalem. We’ll conclude our day with a visit to the Wailing Wall. Dinner and overnight in Bethlehem.

Day 6: Wednesday, March 18 

Mount of Olives - Herodion - Bethlehem - Shepherd’s Field

We start the day with a visit to the Mount of Olives, where we will stop for another panoramic view of Jerusalem, from  which our guide will point out the most important sites in Jerusalem. We’ll continue on to visit Herodion, Herod’s summer palace and burial place. We will then visit Bethlehem and the Church of the Nativity, built over the traditional birthplace of Jesus. We will end the day will by visiting the Shepherd’s Field where the shepherd saw the star of the nativity. Dinner and overnight in Bethlehem.

Day 7: Thursday, March 19

Masada - Qumran - Dead Sea 

We’ll have a full day in the Dead Sea area, where we will visit Masada, the fortress built by King Herod the Great and made famous by the Zealots in their stand-off against the Romans in 73/74 AD. We’ll visit the fortress and see the ruins that are considered a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. Then we’ll continue on to see Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. We can swim or float in the Dead Sea, then see the Elisha Spring and Mount Temptation Monastery as we pass by. Dinner and overnight in Bethlehem.

Day 8: Friday, March 20 

Temple Mount - Church of St. Anne - Davidson Center - Mt. Zion - Upper Room - David’s Tomb - Israel Museum - Yad Vashem

We visit the Temple Mount where the Jewish Temple originally stood. Then we will visit the Church of St. Anne (the traditional site of the Virgin Mary’s birth) & the Pool of Bethesda (where Jesus healed a paralytic). Next we will visit Davidson Center (the Jerusalem Archaeological Park), Mount Zion, the Upper Room, and David’s Tomb. In the afternoon, we’ll see the Israel Museum, where the Dead Sea Scrolls are kept, and Yad Vashem (the World Holocaust Remembrance Center). Dinner and overnight in Bethlehem.

Day 9: Saturday, March 21

Garden of Gethsemane - Church of St. Peter - Church of the Holy Sepulchre - Garden Tomb 

We start this most meaningful day with prayer at the Garden of Gethsemane. We’ll continue on, as Jesus did, to Caiaphas’ Palace (where Peter denied Jesus three times) and the Church of St. Petercin Gallicantu (which commemorates the denials). Then we’ll move to the Ecce Homo arch and Gabbatha, where Pilate condemned Jesus to death. From there, we’ll follow the Stations of the Cross to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, (the traditional site of the crucifixion and one of two sites claiming to be that of the resurrection). We’ll walk through different quarters of Jerusalem, and end at the Garden Tomb (the second site claiming to be that of the resurrection). Dinner and overnight in Bethlehem.

Day 10: Sunday, March 22

City of David - Hezekiah’s Tunnel - Pool of Siloam - Farewell Dinner 

We start our final day with a visit to the City of David and walk Hezekiah’s Tunnel (an underground water system dating to centuries before Christ). We’ll continue to the Pool of Siloam (where Jesus healed the man who was born blind). We’ll enjoy a free afternoon for personal reflection. On our final evening, we’ll enjoy a farewell dinner in a local restaurant in Bethlehem. Overnight in Bethlehem.

Day 11: Monday, March 23 

Departure for Charlotte

We depart from the Tel Aviv airport, and arrive back in the Charlotte the same day.
